What problems with heart or blood vessels can cause a fall in blood pressure?
If the pumping function of heart (left ventricle) is reduced grossly, it can cause hypotension. Failure of right ventricle as in massive right ventricular infarction causes hypotension. If major pulmonary arteries are blocked with clots in pulmonary embolism, it leads to hypotension. Undue dilatation of blood vessels can also cause hypotension, as in late stages of septicemia. Leak from blood vessels due to tear or rupture can also rapidly cause hypotension due to blood loss.
