Atrial septal defect

IRBBB occurs in conditions in which the right lower chamber of the heart, right ventricle, is enlarged as in atrial septal defect. Atrial septal defect is a hole in the wall between the upper chambers of the heart.

IRBBB can also occur without any other significant heart disease. In such cases there is no great significance for an IRBBB. Significance is mainly for the underlying heart disease than for the conduction delay itself. IRBBB was noted in 3% of about 3.3 million ECGs of healthy children in a study.
