Wireless ECG patch – nanotechnology in action

IMEC – a Belgian nanotechnology research center has developed the Wireless ECG patch – a miniature device which can be worn on your body just like a watch. It monitors your ECG round the clock and sends the data to a PC or other device for analysis. This intends to serve as a replacement to the Holter monitor (shown below) which is used presently for 24hr ECG monitoring. The ECG patch gives the person the freedom to engage in his daily activities, and poses no limitation to his mobility. But it is still to undergo clinical trial and will be commercially available only after a few years.
