Catch 22 syndrome

Catch 22 syndrome

Catch 22 syndrome is also known as DiGeorge syndrome or Velo-cardio-facial syndrome. The components of the syndrome include congenital thymic aplasia, conotruncal anomalies and facial dysmorphism. It is a chromosome 22q11 deletion syndrome, described by DiGeorge. DiGeorge syndrome is characterised by infections due to deficient T cell mediated immunity. Conotruncal anomalies associated are tetralogy of Fallot and truncus arteriosus. Palatal abnormalities include cleft palate and velopharyngeal incompetence. Learning difficulties are associated in the majority of them. Hypocalcemia is another association.
