Usually odynophagia is a feature of esophageal disease. Only pain of cardiac origin which can increase on swallowing is pain of pericarditis. This is because oesophagus is just posterior to the pericardium covering the left atrium. Pericarditis is usually associated with a prominent pericardial rub while anginal pain is often associated with no auscultatory finding.
