High volume pulse may be noted in – Correct answer: a) Severe acute aortic regurgitation

In acute aortic regurgitation, left ventricle may not be very much dilated and the rapid rise in left ventricular diastolic pressure causes mitral valve premature closure. The high left ventricular diastolic pressure prevents fall in aortic diastolic pressure to low levels, needed to produce the high volume pulse which is characteristic of chronic severe aortic regurgitation.
