Judkins left guide catheter is used for percutaneous coronary interventions. The curves of the catheter have partially straightened out as it is a used specimen for disposal. If JL 4 catheter was used diagnostic angiography, usually a JL 3.5 guide catheter will be used for interventions. A catheter with a longer curve will be directed towards the left circumflex while one with a shorter curve will be directed towards the left anterior descending coronary artery. The primary curve engages the coronary ostium while the secondary curve engages the opposite wall of the aorta. Guide catheters are stiffer due to braided design and the lumen size is larger than that of diagnostic catheters. The tip of guide catheters do not taper like the diagnostic catheters.
