Maximal acceptable contrast dose

Maximal acceptable contrast dose

Maximal acceptable contrast dose is calculated to determine the level of safe usage of radiographic contrast during angiography and interventions. Maximal acceptable contrast dose is calculated as 5 milliliters of contrast per kilogram of body weight divided by the baseline serum creatinine level in milligrams per deciliter. It may be noted that though maximal acceptable contrast dose has been validated by many studies, significant number of contrast induced nephropathies do occur even when the maximal acceptable contrast dose has not been exceeded.
