What is a stadiometer?

Of course, all of you would have seen one, but may not be familiar with the name and hence this post! Stadiometer is nothing but the device used for measuring human height. There will be a ruler with markings and a horizontal headpiece to be positioned to rest on the top of the head. It is commonly used during routine medical checkups. In paediatric age group, height along with weight is essential to calculate dosage of medications. Calculation of body mass index or BMI for evaluation of obesity also needs documentation of height. Many of us may not have seen the digital version shown in the image from Wikipedia.
