AR and MR – Colour Doppler echocardiogram

Colour Doppler echocardiogram showing aortic regurgitation (AR) and mitral regurgitation (MR). MR jet is seen in the left atrium (LA) in the systolic frame on the left side of the image, while AR jet is seen in the left ventricle (LV) in the diastolic frame on the right side of the image. RA: right atrium; RV: right ventricle; Ao: aorta. The colour bar on the top right corner shows that the Nyquist limit is 61 cm/second. The AR jet shows a good mosaic pattern due to the high velocity and variance in the velocity spectrum. The severity of AR can be assessed by the width of the jet at its origin in relation to the left ventricular outflow tract diameter as well as by the extent of the jet into the left ventricle.
