Aspirin for primary prevention

Aspirin for primary prevention

There is very little evidence for the role of aspirin for primary prevention except in females above the age of sixty five years. Aspirin given for primary prevention can prevent one event per two hundred and sixty four patients treated, at a risk of one major bleed per two hundred and sixty five patients treated. Hence they cancel out. American Diabetes Association (ADA) has recommended aspirin for stroke prevention for diabetics with one additional risk factor.
