Can a floppy atrial septum cause stroke?

Floppy atrial septum is an aneurysm or bulge in the atrial septum which moves to and fro. It can cause embolic stroke rarely, especially if it is associated with a patent foramen ovale. Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a cause for paradoxical embolism. Now there are PFO closure devices available, to prevent recurrent strokes due to paradoxical embolism.
