Can a teenager have heart disease?

No age is exempt from heart disease, but some forms of heart disease like a heart attack are quite rare in teen agers. Still teen agers can have heart attack if they are heavy smokers, have a strong family history of premature heart disease, or familial disorder with very high blood cholesterol. Other forms of heart disease which can occur in teen agers are congenital heart disease (birth defects of the heart) and rheumatic heart disease (disease of heart valves following rheumatic fever in childhood).
