Can ECG detect all heart problems?

Can ECG detect all heart problems?

No. ECG cannot detect all heart problems. ECG being the record of the electrical activity of the heart, only heart problems which alter the electrical activity of the heart can be detected by the ECG. Sometimes even a severe heart problem need not alter the electrical activity of the heart at rest and can have a normal ECG.  More over ECG is a test which has been there for over a century and several newer modalities of investigations have evolved after that. Still, it is the best test for early detection of a heart attack and is widely available. It can be done at the bedside, even in remote places. Live monitoring is possible with wireless devices, quite useful for detecting heart rhythm abnormalities. ECG enabled smart devices are also there.
