Treadmill exercise test (TMT)

Treadmill exercise test (TMT)

TMT is short form for treadmill exercise test. TMT is done on a motorized treadmill which is controlled by a computer console. The speed and gradient are controlled by the computer as per the test protocol selected by the technician or physician conducting the test. The person is connected with electrodes on the chest and body and wired to the computer console which displays the real time ECG , speed of the treadmill and other important parameters. In a usual TMT test, speed and gradient are increased in stages of three minutes to the maximum tolerated range for the person. The test is terminated prematurely if the person has chest pain, giddiness or the computer monitor shows significant ECG abnormality. The test conducted in a facility with equipment for emergency care in case of any untoward incident like chest pain or abnormal heart rhythm.
