Dietary sodium intake for a healthy adult has been given as 2300 mg/day. If 40% sodium content of table salt is considered, this will work out to about one teaspoon of table salt. In hypertensive individuals it may be limited to 1500 mg/day. Lower levels may be considered in those with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis liver and renal failure [1]. Processed food products usually have a higher salt content. Salt content of fast food is much higher than regular food materials.
