Cardiac Syndrome X

Cardiac syndrome X

Syndrome X, specifically cardiac syndrome X is angina with normal coronary angiograms. Diagnosis requires the presence of typical exercise-induced angina with positive exercise stress ECG or other stress testing and normal coronary arteries on angiography.
Echocardiogram is usually done to look for the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy and/ or diastolic dysfunction. Survival prognosis is quite favorable, but the morbidity is high.

Cardiac syndrome X is different from the metabolic syndrome X, but the two conditions may sometimes be associated.
