Tachycardiomyopathy

Tachycardiomyopathy

Chronic tachycardia leads to depletion of myocardial energy stores which in turn causes left ventricular dilatation and cellular morphologic changes. Important arrhythmias known to cause tachycardiomyopathy are ectopic atrial tachycardia, nonparoxysmal junctional tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) and very rarely ventricular tachycardia. Long standing ventricular ectopy in large numbers can also cause tachycardiomyopathy.
